The Dart Board Cabinet, A Thing Of Beauty?

To stop your wall looking like its been attacked by a miniature machine gun and to keep the darts room looking presentable, you need a dart board cabinet for your dart board. They look so good these days too, the choice is extensive, and you can surely find one that suits your taste from the many on sale. You could just go for a dart backboard instead, but nothing beats a good-looking cabinet, especially if you are stuck for space and use the dining room as a part time darts room.

The advantages of a dart board cabinet is that it tidies the dart board away making the place look neat and tidy and it is also a place to store away your darts equipment. They nearly all have a chalk board or dry wipe board to keep score on. When it comes to electronic dart boards, the cabinets have to be bigger as the electronic dart boards are bigger and the cabinets usually have some extra storage for all your darts stuff. The cabinet doors will protect your wall from those errant darts as well as having the scoreboard and out charts on the inside.

Cabinets are available in all sorts of colors, sizes and styles, manufactured in wood normally with quality finishes including inlays and door shapes, they look great on the wall with the board hidden away. The cabinet is a good looking adornment for the wall with or without a dart board inside. There is a metal cabinet from Harley Davidson would you believe, with diamond plate doors and a chrome trim, looks very cool if you like that sort of thing, but use heavy duty screws when mounting that one.

A great idea I’ve found on the net is to put carpet or dense foam on the inside of your cabinet enhancing both protection for the darts and the look of the cabinet as well as protecting the inside of the cabinet from looking like it has a severe case of woodworm, but test you have the necessary depth to the cabinet before you do it.

The advantages of the dart board cabinet is that it will protect your walls from the darts and tidy the board away when not in use with the added bonus of being a place to store your darts and darting bits as well.

How to Make A Warhammer Gaming Terrain Board

The first thing to consider in continuing a Warhammer gaming hobby is to construct a terrain board that will fit all your models. This will give you a fun and exciting place to put all you Warhammer games on which is much better place to play on rather than on the kitchen table or on the floor.

It will also provide you more options on your terrain pieces and create more terrain pieces that will fit on the your table, creating a gaming environment that appears and feels impressive and realistic. It will also enhance your gaming experience and allows you to play more with its wide space area depending on the size you will be doing.

This article is a step-by-step guide on how to make your own gaming boards. There are many options in creating your own gaming boards, it includes the materials to be use, but this is the one which is the easiest and the cheapest as i have found out so far.

What size board should you create?

There are a few options to choose from. They include:

-2′ x 2′

-4′ x 4′

-4′ x 6′

-4′ x 8′

(’ denotes feet – one foot = 30 cm)

The 2′ x 2′ boards are very flexible and allow you to create terrain that you can move around and form into various pieces, especially if you build in hills or rivers.

However, our favorite size to choose is 4′ x 4′ boards, as it is a very good standard board size and it is very good for battles as high as a few thousands points on each side. It is also easy to add two of these boards together to form a 4′ x 8′ playing area for especially large battles, whereas with the 2′ x 2′ boards this is a little more clumsy and creates a playing area with a lot of gaps and unsightly lines.

But in the end it is always you that will choose on what board that will best fit your gaming mood.

Materials and Tools Needed

Here is a list of materials that you will need:

-1/2 sheet of plywood (4′ x 4′)

-16′ of 2?x1? (pine is what we use, but it doesn’t matter)

-16 x 1 1/4? screws

-power drill

-small drill bit (3/16? should work)

-measuring tape

-pencil

-saw

-sandpaper

(WARNING: You should ALWAYS have adult supervision when using any tools or power tools.)

Step 1 – Cut 2?x1? to size

Our first step that will be doing is to divide the 2?x1? into four pieces, two 4 feet long and the other two is 46 inches long.

Step 2 – Create foundation

Drill holes first on the wood before putting in any screws. This will prevent the wood from splitting. After you have drilled holes on the wood you can then screw in the screws using either your power drill if you have or simply by hand. Be sure to screw it tightly to gain enough strength on your foundation.

Step 3 – Attach Top

Attach the plywood on the top of your frame. Once again drill holes wherever you will be putting in screws to prevent splitting. Three to four screws on each sides should be fairly enough. Once you are finish in screwing down the plywood on your frame, use the sandpaper to polish all corners to get rid of any silvered wood. This will give you a smooth edge on your table for better look.

That’s it after polishing all the edges and the sides be sure to check all the screws if it screwed tightly you have now your gaming board with a strong foundation. The next step is to finish the top but will be discuss in another article.

Board Games With Collectors Editions

A majority of people alive today consider themselves collectors of either one thing or another, and nearly anything is possible to be collected. Board games are absolutely no exception and can actually prove to be one of the more exciting things that collectors can pursue. When a collector decides to pursue a board game collection, they are usually confronted with an interesting challenge. Many board games have been around for 50 years or more, with revised editions being released somewhat frequently. Not only does this present a challenge with tracking down each edition released, but most games release a Special Collector’s Anniversary Edition, whether it be at 10 years, 25 years, or 50 years on the market. Often, more than one anniversary edition will even be released, presenting an obstacle to the collector. These Special Collector’s Editions, nearly always in limited release, can be one of the hardest pieces of a collection to track down, but ultimately the most satisfying.

Monopoly, being one of the most beloved board games, has a number of Special Collector’s Editions available, some of them feasible for the public and some of them not. Some of the most popular Collector’s Editions come in the form of the theme of the game. Fans can purchase editions from Betty Boop, The Simpsons, and Coca Cola, to games that are themed after an area other than Atlantic City, such as New York City, New England, or National Parks. Special Editions aren’t limited to solely different themes, however. Monopoly has released re-prints of the original 1935 edition of the game as well as Anniversary Editions, all the way up to their latest 70th Anniversary. These editions usually come in a tin game case, with specially embossed game cards and tokens.

There have been some very exquisite editions of Monopoly available, however, which have delighted fans. In 1978, Neiman Marcus released an edition of Monopoly through their Christmas Wish Book that was made entirely using chocolate. Every single piece of this set is edible, from the playing pieces and the dice, the cards and hotels, and even the board itself! This deluxe set was retailed for $600 and was quite popular with Monopoly fans. Additionally, in 2000, the famous toy store F.A.O. Schwartz released One-of-a-Kind Monopoly for $100,000, which could be found with 18 Karat Gold pieces, emeralds, rubies, and sapphires built into the board, and real US currency in place of play money.

Clue is another game which has featured multiple Special Collector’s Editions, some from very high places. The Franklin Mint produced a version of the game on a fully three-dimensional game board that has gold plated pieces and cards as well as a complete redesign of the cards involved. A more affordable version was produced for the 50th Anniversary Edition, featuring the game in a tin game case, but with specially designed suspect tokens, weapons, and card design. This, in addition to a new version being produced around every 10 years, gives the Clue collector a large base to cover in their quest. Collecting these, or any board game, can prove to be a fun challenge. However, it may take quite a while for a serious collector to find all the pieces, meaning that they must have a dedicated love to the game to achieve their goal!

Tips For Selecting the Best Mat Board

Creating the best display for your photographs really hinges upon an accurately measured mat board. In fact, a photograph’s placement in the frame as well as the overall visual effect actually depends upon well-selected, properly cut matting supplies. The correct choice of matting makes all the difference whether ready made photo frames or custom picture frames are used.

Given how important matting supplies are in framing, the $64K question is, how do you select the best mat board for use with your photo?

Steps for selecting matting

1. Start with your photograph – Since your photo is meant to be the centerpiece of the project, it’s always wise to measure its dimensions before considering any mat board or frame. If you plan to crop the photo at all, be sure to measure accordingly.

2. Locate matting with complimentary interior dimensions – For the best results, you want to find matting supplies that are one quarter to one half an inch less smaller than the dimensions of your photo. For an 18 x 15 photo, for instance, a mat board with 17 ½ x 14 ½ for interior dimensions would work well. The correct interior measurements in your matting ensure the photo can be properly secured and properly showcased.

3. Select matting with the desired exterior dimensions – The best width of matting to use really depends upon the framing you have chosen. When coordinating mat boards with custom picture frames, for instance, look for dimensions in both that will work together. A wider mat will be needed to place a considerably smaller photo in a large frame, for example.

4. Consider the mounting – If a frame will not be used, the matting dimensions must work with the dimensions of your photo mount board. In fact, it’s wise to use a Foamcore mount board as the primary backing in this case. Foamcore mount boards are sturdy enough to provide the necessary support for the photo as well as the mat. In this case, the external size of the matting and Foamcore mount board dimensions must work together

Alternatives to framing

Matting can still be a consideration even if you prefer not to frame or display a photo. Even images kept in a photo storage box for safekeeping can benefit from using matting. In fact, they are better protected when stored in this manner. Photos encased in a mat and backing will not stick together over time, so there is less risk of loosing precious your precious shots when stored.

An Informative Bulletin On Cement Board Siding

This article descibes in length about the wonders of Cement Board siding. It talks about its durability, strength and ease of adaptability. It is surely one of the best method of siding.

Cement board siding was first developed by James Hardie Industries in Australia over 100 years ago. The company discovered the process of its construction while researching building materials that could withstand the wear and tear associated with extreme climates. Cement board siding is extremely strong, and is resistant to fires, insects and rot. Cement board siding is highly moldable, meaning that it can appear in a variety of styles. In many cases, cement board siding is made with simulated wood grain. However, other designs, including smooth or stucco appearances, can also be found. Amazing Siding & Windows offers top-of-the-line cement fiber siding for your home. Expertly installed and backed by warranties that are unmatched anywhere in the industry, you may never need to concern yourself with the outside of your home again.

Cement board siding: Reliable

Unlike vinyl siding, cement board siding does need to be painted. However, unlike wood, cement board siding absorbs paint in an enduring way. Cement board siding coated in a good, protective paint will likely never peel or chip. While the appearance can be every bit as lovely as wood, you save yourself the worry about serious problems such as water damage. All of the exterior walls of most homes can be covered with cement fiber, and in many cases the soffits as well.

Fiber cement board siding is a great choice for homes around high winds and fire prone areas because of its high resistance. Termites and other harmful bugs are never a threat to this type of siding. Moisture won”t even be a factor with the life expectancy it provides.

The style of this siding is comparable to other plywood patterns. Both siding choices allow for the look of real wood whether it is smooth or embossed. One very noticeable difference when installing is that the fiber cement board siding weighs half as much as composite siding that is the same size.

Durability of Cement Board Siding.

There are many different ways to install fiber cement siding. Many ways of installing the siding is similar to how normal wood siding is installed. One popular installation method is to fasten siding with nails or wood screws on a wood frame.

Although installation for wood and fiber cement board siding is similar, ways to cut these types of siding is a different story. Fiber cement board siding is harder to cut and so it takes a little more time to work with than the other wood siding. To cut siding power tools are required. Before embarking on cutting and nailing siding, read all manufacturer directions to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you.

Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon or Gynecologist?

More and more physicians having minimal experience in cosmetic procedures are offering to perform such procedures within the settings of their office. Having a non-expert perform such a treatment increases the risk of complications while simultaneously diminishing the likelihood of the treatment’s success.

Gynecologists, general practitioners and ophthalmologists are examples of the wide range of doctors now offering such services. So why are so many physicians with no background in cosmetic techniques becoming more interested in offering aesthetic treatments?

One reason is that patients interested in receiving aesthetic services usually pay for these services out of their own pocket because most health insurance companies don’t cover such procedures. This is attractive to many physicians because it may take some effort to collect payment from an individual’s health insurance company.

However, this same economic benefit to doctors may also potentially result in a conflict of interest. While most physicians do not openly promote their aesthetic services, there still may be subtle enticements (e.g., waiting room literature) which motivate patients to inquire about these services.

There is also the question of whether or not the physician possesses the level of expertise and knowledge to perform aesthetic procedures. Many of these doctors may only be given a single day, or less, of training to learn cosmetic techniques.

Physicians not having the necessary training may not know what to do should a complication arise. A minor complication, which could have been easily corrected by a relatively simple treatment, may become a major issue requiring specialized medical treatment or even surgery.

Even worse, some serious dermatological conditions may be mistaken for a cosmetic issue by those doctors having insufficient experience in either cosmetic procedures or dermatology. According to a study performed by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) dermatological surgeons are reporting a rapid increase in the number of skin cancers that were incorrectly diagnosed as a cosmetic issue by physicians not having the appropriate experience in aesthetic and dermatologic procedures. If a non-experienced doctor uses a laser to remove a skin cancer that they misdiagnosed as an age spot, then the skin cancer will return in a likely more advanced stage.

All of the above considerations points to the importance of having a qualified plastic surgeon perform any aesthetic treatment that one is considering. Always seek a professional having experience in aesthetic methodologies. Refrain from using a general practitioner or gynecologist even if you have a long history as a patient with a particular general practitioner or gynecologist.

Make sure that the physician that you will be using is a member of a professional organization representing plastic surgeons. Two such noteworthy societies are the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).

The ASPS has been in existence since 1931 while all members of the ASAPS have been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). Both of these societies can also place you in contact with a qualified professional located near your place of residence.

Be wary of using a doctor who has not been certified by the ABPS to perform a cosmetic procedure. Just because a physician belongs to a professional organization having the word “cosmetic” or “aesthetic” in its name does not mean that the physician has been certified by the ABPS.

It may be tempting to let one’s guard down when looking for a doctor to perform a cosmetic procedure. Nonetheless, it is imperative to remember that these services carry with them associated medical implications. Therefore, the importance of using a qualified professional having extensive experience cannot be understated.

History of Board Games

Board games are certainly a lot of fun and they have been around for a long time. They bring friends and family together for friendly competition and the outcome is different every single time the game is played. Perhaps that is why the board game has not declined in popularity throughout its long history.

The history

Speaking of the history of board games, you will find that they have always been played upon a flat surface that is called the board. It is believed that board games have been around for 4,000 years, but unfortunately the written history does not extend back that far. However, there has been talk of board games discovered that extends back beyond 3,500 years.

Being that Asia tends to be the area in which some of the most historic facts are found, it isn’t until 400 B.C. that the board games seems to have been discovered. However, the history of board games reveals that they were quite popular in ancient Greece and then spread throughout Europe. Eventually, the board game made its way to the United States where people have enjoyed them for centuries.

Nevertheless, the history of board games does not end there. There are both strategy games that involve trapping the opponent in some way and then there are racing games where the player’s pieces are moved toward the finish line. Whoever reaches the finish line first is the winner.

One of the most popular racing games that come about in 1904 went by the name ‘The Landlord’s Game.’ This is known as being one of the earliest forms of Monopoly. It wasn’t copyrighted until 1933 when Charles Darrow decided to sell it for profit. It was not known who made the first version of the game, but he cashed in on it by selling versions that used different street names based on the area in which the players resided. It was also printed on tablecloths rather than boards with trinkets from around the house used as game pieces.

Today

You will find that today the history of board games continues. Many of the games that our parents and grandparents enjoyed as children are still manufactured. We see Monopoly coming out with various editions and it has never seemed to decline in popularity. Nevertheless, the board game is a great way to get family and friends together for some friendly fun and good conversation. The history of board games shows that this has been a result the entire time, which makes the board game a true family activity. If you can’t get the kids to slow down long enough to talk, invite them in with a board game. You’ll be glad you did.
